The community, culture, and cuisine in Harbour Island has been greatly influenced by the island’s rich sport fishing history. Geographically blessed, this outer Bahamian island faces the Atlantic and boasts various ecosystems that are sure to impress even the most vetted fishermen and fisherwomen in your party. From shallow flats rich with bonefish, to vibrant reefs and deep water home to record catches of marlin, tuna, and wahoo, Harbour Island truly has it all.
As your premiere concierge on the island we’re dedicated to offering top-quality fishing excursions aboard our fleet of Intrepid boats. As always, our white-glove service makes planning your dream fishing excursion an easy and effortless process. Reservations for full-day and half-day excursions can be made online or by contacting our concierge team. You can count on water, ice, fuel, and a state of the art-vessel from us, but our real secret weapon are our experienced captains who know the surrounding waters like the backs of their hands. While we can’t guarantee that you’ll catch an award winning marlin, we can guarantee that your captain knows all the best fishing spots.
When you arrive at the dock our captains will go through basic safety instructions to make sure everyone enjoys the thrill of reeling in a big one without hurting themselves or anyone else aboard. Once you’ve covered safety instructions, you’ll be able to curate your adventure to your liking.
There are many types of fish in the Bahamas. Here are some that you most likely encounter on your fishing experience:
Blue marlin
Wahoo
Sailfish
Snapper
Blackfin tuna
Tarpon
Grouper
Bonefish
Amberjack
Mahi-Mahi
Barracudas
You are also likely to see dolphins and sharks during your incursion.
Craving the thrill of deep sea fishing? Then we’ll take you over to James Point, an area that features a 1,000 foot drop where you can find blue marlin, dolphin, wahoo, and sailfish. The area is so rich with life that it hosts the annual Bahamas Billfish Tournament. Luckily, there are a few other deep drop-offs in the area that will ensure you’ll have an exclusive and crowd-free experience.
Interested in catching bonefish on the world-renown flats that surround Harbour Island and Eleuthera? Let our captains navigate you to their secret spots where clear waters give you a clear view of the shimmering scales of fish swimming around the flats. What these fish lack in size they more than make up for in agility. Our bonefishing excursions will give you a first-hand experience of the remarkably fast and powerful pull of Bahamian bonefish.
The Spearfishing experience around Eleuthera and Harbour Island can be quite an adventure and give you a completely different type of experience compared to other types of fishing. The waters around the islands are crystal clear which makes it easier to spot some of the prized catches such as grouper, hogfish and not to mention lobsters as well. Unlike some areas that are active in spearfishing, visitors here use Hawaiian slings rather than spearguns as they are prohibited by law throughout the Bahamas.
The numerous coral heads and underwater caves scattered throughout the western side of Eleuthera provide the perfect hiding spots for fish, and in turn makes it ideal for spearfishing. These natural formations are ideal for many different types of fish like grouper, snapper, and parrotfish as they can seek shelter from larger predators and find safe places to lay their eggs. These caves can also support a diverse group of nocturnal marine life, including lobsters and moray eels, who emerge under the cover of darkness to hunt and feed.
Harbour Island’s eastern shore offers deeper waters and attracts much larger fish such as tuna, marlin and wahoo. These fish are drawn to the dramatic drop-off where the Bahamian shelf plunges into the Atlantic Ocean, creating an ideal spot for spearfishing just a few miles offshore. The deep waters also support a rich ecosystem of smaller fish and squid, which helps sustain the population of these prized sportfish throughout the year.
After you’ve hooked your lucky catches of the day on one of our half-day or full-day excursions, you’ll be brought safely to the dock. There, you’ll receive help cleaning the fish so you can take it with you to cook or so you can hand it to a chef at a local restaurant to cook up for you!
